Reviewing Blended
As a film viewer, I enjoyed 'Blended', I personally feel that all Adam Sandler roles are similar, so if you are fairly conversant with his movies, you oughtn't to be shocked. Also, the film is filled with young actors and as A.O Scott put it," their résumés will outgrow this embarrassment."
Most people who see the movie will probably recommend it for its lightweight comic athmosphere. However, it didpoorly terribly poorly in reviews. After reading, A.O Scott's review, (see it here) I discovered that the job of a film critic is tedious. It could lead a person to confuse the objective of a movie with the features seen in the movie. As seen in this review, he seemed to assume that the movie was aiming for a higher intellectually endowed crowd. I am of the opinion that the producers of Blended were aiming at financial gain. I also disagree with his advise to parents that the movie would make their children stupid. I believe it would make them geographically and culturally poor not stupid, probably idiotic, but definitely not stupid.
I agree with him on some points though. He notes that Blended has its retrograde gender politics; its delight in the humiliation of children; its sentimental hypocrisy about male behavior; its quasi-zoological depiction of Africans as servile, dancing, drum-playing simpletons. The last is the bane of my problem. After watching the movie, I was utterly disgusted with how they portrayed the african culture. Africa is not a 'kumbulu kumbala' region. this movie makes people come out of the cinema with the impression that African people are similar to animals, speaking in RIDICULOUS accents, and dancing to songs which they assume show african style. Not to be too sentimental and go off on a tirade, I will state that the propagation of the 'Africans live with animals in close proximity and behave like them' notion was very wrong. This was emphasized in the Lion King where that land was regarded as Africa.
The greatest insult of the movie in terms of the African disregard, is that the movie was actually shot in South Africa. A cursory look at the nominees of the concluded BET awards, show that African music is nothing as was portrayed in the movie. The likes of P-Square who are signed to Akon and are internationally recognized for hits such as Chop my money and Personally, Tuface Idibia who even just released a song with T-Pain (widely remembered for African Queen), Tiwa Savage who is signed to Sony Records, Ice Prince and M.I who are famous rappers, amongst a host of others show that African music is global and of a higher level than shown in the movie. Even Mafikhizolo, who can be considered as leading 'African cultural' artistes seeing as they sing in swahili, still use beats and tunes that are of a higher nature than seen in the movie. This is terribly disappointing.
I therefore rate Blended as a one-star movie and this is just for Terry Crew's acting. He finally played a role that I feel would have been challenging for him.

Taylor Swift's take on haters.
Taylor is releasing a new album, 1989, which is the year of her birth. Her hit single, "Shake It Off" is already arousing much criticism musically and politically. All in all, I was ecstatic to learn that Taylor had released a single and video, because she plays around and there's a lot of fun involved. As expected, Taylor didn't disappoint her viewers regarding the video. There WAS a lot of play/fun in it.
I think the problem comes from the shifting of perspective. I hear complaints such as; Oh, here's this good girl, i-tell-my-life-in-songs girl moving from country to pop. An all-pop album. Not that there is anything whatsoever wrong with pop, but then that's shocking. HATERS GONNA HATE.
Also, Taylor is trying out different forms of dance in her video. Why? She should stick to one instead of releasing a dance mashup video in which she does poorly in all? HATERS GONNA HATE
I however happen to just have ONE problem, Taylor. If you really don't like what people say isn't it easier to keep quiet than shake it off. Now i'm going to be the front runner for the 'shake-it-off' campaign when it regards lies and people who want to get you down. But, when a person tells her whole life to the world via songs and social media is it really alright that she then play the victim when those people give her a piece of their mind?
Now if this song had been addressed to helping the rife problem of depression due to all causes,(may Robin Williams' soul rest in peace) I would jump on the bandwagon of love, but by the tense used in the song and the categories of haters mentioned; the heart-breakers and players, it shows that Taylor is talking about none other than herself.

Understanding Ebola
So right now, the most important issue is Ebola. Common knowledge shows the major reasons why:
- Its a virus so is harder to control eg HIV
- Its got no vaccine and no cure
- The corpse of an infected person can still transmit the disease
- Its transmitted by direct contact
With all these information swirling around, the internet is rife with people's opinions and loads of diverse medical knowledge on the issue from very highly respected medical personnel. As such, a good start should be the thoughts of Michael Van Rooyen. As said of him on Harvard's website:

A catchy title right? Anyway its true. The relevance of the pen is depreciating with each passing day. Now, this dude says the last time he saw a pen in his home was 2 months previously. Its not that bad yet here. I mean at work, you use pens all the time. Furthermore, Internet banking hasn't really caught on here, so pens are used in the banking halls too.

Water in the Brain..
Following the case of three year old Roona Begum, who has now smiled for the first time and can now move her head from side to side, I was interested in this 'water in brain' disease. Here is what Medical News Today had to say:

"Hydrocephalus, also called Water on the Brain is a condition in which there is an abnormal build up of CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) in the cavities (ventricles) of the brain. The buildup is often caused by an obstruction which prevents proper fluid drainage. The fluid buildup can raise intracranial pressure inside the skull which compresses surrounding brain tissue, possibly causing progressive enlargement of the head, convulsions, and brain damage. Hydrocephalus can be fatal if left untreated.
The damage to the brain can cause headaches, vomiting, blurred vision, cognitive problems, and walking difficulties.
The term water on the brain is incorrect, because the brain is surrounded by CSF (cerebrospinal fluid), and not water. CSF has three vital functions:
It protects the nervous system (brain and spinal cord) from damage
It removes waste from the brain
It nourishes the brain with essential hormones
The brain produces about 1 pint of CSF each day. The old CSF is absorbed into blood vessels. If the process of replenishment and release of old CSF is disturbed, CSF levels can accumulate, causing hydrocephalus.
There are three types of hydrocephalus:
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA, approximately 700,000 American children and adults live with hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is also the leading cause of brain surgery for children in the USA. The NIH adds that over the past 25 years death rates linked to hydrocephalus have dropped from 54% to 5%, while the occurrence of intellectual disability has dropped from 62% to 30%. Also, the NIH says there are more than 180 different possible causes of hydrocephalus; a common cause being brain hemorrhage linked to premature birth.
A prenatal ultrasound examination can sometimes detect hydrocephalus in the developing baby. The outlook for a patient with hydrocephalus depends mainly on how quickly the condition is diagnosed and treated, and whether there are any underlying disorders.
Treatment for hydrocephalus often involves using a shunt - a thin tube that is implanted in the brain to drain away excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
What are the signs and symptoms of hydrocephalus?
A symptom is something the patient senses and describes, while a sign is something other people, such as the doctor notice. For example, drowsiness may be a symptom, while dilated pupils may be a sign.
Signs and symptoms of congenital hydrocephalus (present at birth):
Breathing difficulties.
Muscles in the baby's arms and legs may be stiff and prone to contractions.
Some of the developmental stages may be delayed, such as sitting up or cradling.
Tense fontanelle - an outward curving of an infant's soft spot (fontanelle). The soft part of the top of the baby's head bulges outwards.
The baby may be irritable and/or drowsy
The baby may be unwilling to bend or move his/her neck or head.
The baby may feed poorly.
The baby's head seems larger than it should be.
The baby's scalp is thin and shiny. There may be visible veins on the scalp.
The pupils of the baby's eyes may be right close to the bottom of the eyelid; sometimes known as the setting sun.
There may be a high-pitched cry.
There may be seizures.
There may be vomiting.
Signs and symptoms of acquired hydrocephalus (develops after birth):
Bowel incontinence (rare)
Confusion and/or disorientation
Drowsiness
Headaches
Irritability, which may be progressive

Those with a ‘unity state of mind’ found recalling conflicts made them feel less happy with their relationship. Professor Lee said: 'Our findings corroborate prior research showing people who implicitly think of relationships as perfect unity between soulmates have worse relationships than people who implicitly think of relationships as a journey of growing and working things out. Apparently, different ways of talking and thinking about love relationship lead to different ways of evaluating it.'

A scientific study has shown that too little sleep tricks memory, as such people who are deprived of shuteye are more likely to make things up they have 'seen'. Lack of sleep also makes people more likely to form false memories.

So the hottest app right now has got to be Imoji. Imoji was created by San Francisco-based Tom Smith. It turns any image into a sticker to be used in texts and iMessages. Photos from the web, or from the user's own phone gallery, can be cropped and trimmed using built-in editing tools.

A Royal Match
They had a traditional summer wedding. Prince Francois d'Orleans married Theresa von Einsiedel at the Basilica of St Jacob in Straubing, Germany. Prince Francois is fourth child of Count and Countess of Evreux and late grandfather was Prince Henri, Count of Paris. The bride, who grew up in Bavaria comes from German nobility and her mother is Princess Amelie von Urach. NASA's new telescope....
This is allegedly the key to finding alien life. It is called the Advanced Telescope Large-Aperture Space Telescope (Atlast). It will be the successor to the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) which will launch in 2018. Most importantly, the huge telescope will be designed to hunt for alien life on other planets. Nasa guarantees that in 20 years it will be able to answer the question: "Are we alone?"
Rihanna's rough week
Rihanna has had a pretty rough week people.
A homeless man was arrested for stalking and harassing her. His name is Kevin Mcglynn, and he was collared on Thursday after he was allegedly caught on surveillance video three times this month delivering chilling letters to her home in New York. DailyMail reports that the 53-year-old handed the sinister material to one of the singer's lackeys at her SoHo apartment block according to court documents.
This left the Barbadian beauty in 'fear for her physical safety'. Police managed to find him after after he dropped his benefits card at the singer's residence, which helpfully had his name and address on it. As well as his hand delivered notes, he also allegedly sent at least four letters to her home in California.
Then, in court on Friday, Mcglynn went even more nutso, claiming that Rihanna, Kanye West, and Jay Z stole “my material,” and told the judge “you are lying” when he said Mcglynn couldn’t represent himself.
A homeless man was arrested for stalking and harassing her. His name is Kevin Mcglynn, and he was collared on Thursday after he was allegedly caught on surveillance video three times this month delivering chilling letters to her home in New York. DailyMail reports that the 53-year-old handed the sinister material to one of the singer's lackeys at her SoHo apartment block according to court documents.
This left the Barbadian beauty in 'fear for her physical safety'. Police managed to find him after after he dropped his benefits card at the singer's residence, which helpfully had his name and address on it. As well as his hand delivered notes, he also allegedly sent at least four letters to her home in California.
Then, in court on Friday, Mcglynn went even more nutso, claiming that Rihanna, Kanye West, and Jay Z stole “my material,” and told the judge “you are lying” when he said Mcglynn couldn’t represent himself.

Rouge Louboutin?
Simply put, Christian Louboutin, stated:
"The Red Sole was born from red nail polish. I am giving back to nails what the shoe took from the nails many years ago."The varnish is to cost $50, roughly N8500.
The red color has been announced but there are still other colors in the works. They will be revealed soon. The lid of the nail polish is the same as that of he heel of the Ballerina Ultima (seen above).
No more Poirot?
Having grown up reading Agatha Christie, I am very sad, that the day has come where the last Poirot show will air. Poirot was many things, as such I lack the words to explain him that will impress on you a profound admiration for the man. Many actors attempted to portray Hercule Poirot, but only David Suchet gave it life.
Christie’s character, protagonist of more than 30 novels and many short stories spanning the two world wars, was a bit thin on the page — he was no Holmes or Maigret — and Mr. Suchet and the “Poirot” writers beefed him up over the years, giving him layers of wit and understated emotion. He may have been vain and imperious, but on screen he was far from the “egocentric little creep” (Christie’s words) who wore on his own creator.

Mr. Suchet’s portrayal was, in the classic British tradition, built from the outside in. Christie provided a template — short and fastidious, with a dramatic mustache and an egg-shaped head. To this Mr. Suchet added a stiff, military posture and a slightly mincing penguin’s waddle of a walk that could turn into a surprisingly nimble run on the rare occasions when action was called for. Add a small assortment of expressions — gimlet stare, disapproving frown, twinkling grin — and across roughly 80 hours of screen time a full portrait emerges of pride, loyalty, fastidiousness, kindness and implacable principle.
Mr. Suchet’s wise and warm performance was the through line in a series of varying quality. Some episodes felt padded; others, showing the strain of squishing a novel’s worth of Christie’s clues and red herrings into 50 or 90 minutes, were mystifyingly incoherent. Famous guest stars often did little beyond contribute to the show’s gallery of hilariously bad continental accents.
The end of “Poirot” is most notably the end of Mr. Suchet’s long-running performance, but it’s also a step closer to the end of the type of self-contained, plot-based, cloud-of-suspects mystery popularized by Christie and not so long ago predominant in television crime dramas. The last pure example in American TV was probably “Monk,” though the flag is carried by the Holmes shows (“Elementary” and “Sherlock”), and perhaps someone will eventually revive Christie’s Miss Marple. Most of the territory has been ceded to serialized dramas that can’t maintain multiple suspects over a season-long run and instead pick them up and dismiss them one at a time while the detectives mumble and agonize.
The makers of “Agatha Christie’s Poirot” were no doubt conscious of the antiquated nature of their endeavor, and this season they had some fun with it. An exasperated suspect, tired of being politely browbeaten by Poirot, yells: “Why do you insist on referring to yourself in the third person? It’s intensely irritating.”
“Because,” the detective replies, “it helps Poirot achieve a healthy distance from his genius.” A lot of American viewers may find that an intensely irritating answer, but some of us will find American TV poorer without Poirot.

Primark...... WHY??
This is so sad. A shopper, went into a Primark store and saw an anorexic mannequin. Being concerned, she spread the news.
This is a very serious issue as anorexia is a problem that many young ladies are battling with. It also psychologically destructs as it lowers self confidence, and leads to depression. It is mostly deadly because it hasn't left even after many years and much attempts at awareness. Karen Carpenter, died due to this in 1983, and thirty years later, it still kills.
Anyway, the company has offered to look into the matter.
How many engagement rings should a woman have?
Following a revelation by DailyMail, that Victoria Beckham also known as Posh, has had 13 engagement rings in her 15 years of marriage, it got me thinking. How many is needed?
Jewellery maker, Steve Bennett, is of the opinion that, for her it is an accessory saying;
"I’ve never known a woman to chop and change her engagement ring as she does. She clearly sees no reason not to treat it like any other fashion accessory."
Coming from a family, where a new ring is bought only on the premise of the previous one having been stolen. This is new to me.

This is a
Mary Kom is a movie about the Indian female fighter, Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom. According to Wikipedia, She is a five-time World Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships. She is the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in the flyweight (51 kg) category and winning the bronze medal. She has also been ranked as No. 4 AIBA World Women's Ranking Flyweight category.
All in all, the movie is one to watch out for. Its produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and directed by Omung Kumar. The movie is to be released on September 5th, 2014.
